School Matinee PlannedACT will be expanding educational outreach this season by presenting a morning matinee of our February production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. The field-trip performance of the Tennessee Williams drama is being promoted to Theatre, English and Social Study teachers in high schools throughout the area. The new venture, suggested by director Russell Stiles, will begin at 10 a.m. the morning of Opening Night, Thursday, February 17. Participating classes will pay just $5.00 per student. High Schools participating so far are Altoona, Hollidayburg, Cambria Heights, State College and Bald Eagle. The matinee will take place at 10 a.m. the morning of Opening Night, Thursday, February 17. "STREETCAR" AUDITIONS NOVEMBER 28 & 29Auditions for ACT's February production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE will be held Sunday and Monday, November 28 and 29 Auditions will begin at 6 p.m. both nights by appointment for a private reading and interview with the director. No advance preparation is necessary. To request a perusal copy of the script or schedule an appointment to audition, call the ACT office at 943-4357. Russell Stiles is directing the 1947 Tennessee Williams classic, which will open Thursday, February 17, at 8 p.m. following a special educational matinee that morning at 10 a.m., plus shows at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, February 18 and 19, and 2 p.m. Sunday, February 20. All roles are available. Previous experience or prior involvement with ACT is not necessary. The characters in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE are ... * Blanche DuBois - age range 30 to 45, a fading Southern belle from an aristocratic background, delicate, refined and sensitive but neurotic and emotionally scarred by recent experiences. * Stantley Kowalski - 25 to 40, common working man, simple, striaghtforward, honest, unrefined - he views women in a limited capacity. * Stella Kowalski - 25 to 40 - Blanche's younger sister who turned her back on her aristrocratic upbringing when married ... passive and gentle, but caught between the opposing worlds of her husband and Blanche. * Harold "Mitch" Mitchell - 25 to 40, Stanley's best friend and war buddy, unmarried, devoted to his ailing mother with whom he lives, soft-hearted and sensitive * Steve Hubbel - Stanley & Stella's landlord who lives upstairs, a friend and poker budy of Stanley. * Eunice Hubbel -- Steve's wife, a friend and confidante of Stella. * Additional Characters -- A half a dozen or so smaller roles of various ages, sexes, ethinicities ... neighborhood people, nurse, doctor, etc. Because of the special Educational Matinee being planned for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, cast and running crew members working on the show must be able to get off work or out of school and be available from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, February 17. |
